I put together a video sequence of the MAD editor in action, where I quickly created the terrain and sky, and placed some game objects.  It doesn't take long at all to whip up something nice.  Check it out at:

Looks like I need a Vimeo account to be able to see it (plus permission?)...  Regardless, Bob's right--the editor is truly awesome; it even has some features that conventional editors (like BZ2's) lack...and, of course, you're working in a DX9-capable environment, without the copyright restrictions of mods (unless you include the 25% cut Bob gets!  ;-)

Thanks for letting me know you couldn't see it!  I thought that it defaulted to let everyone see it, but not this time.  Now everyone should be able to see the video of the editor in action.

Hmm.... looks very familiar.... I'm guessing it's based off of the Battlezone 2 editor?  Or are there more editors like that that I just haven't seen yet?

It drew a lot of inspiration from the BZ2 editor.  In some ways I've gone beyond the BZ2 editor:
  • Placing/moving sky textures with the mouse
  • Placing paths directly on the terrain
  • Finer control over the orientation of props and objects
  • Ability to see the whole map

There are ways in which the BZ2 editor still has it beat though, especially its UNDO feature.  I've yet to implement that, and it can be a bit painful without it.

That looks really good BS-er

Far easier than the BZ2 editor

You know... im half tempted to swing my mod into this engine rather than the BZ2 engine. Guess i should wait for the game to come out first of course...

Glad you like it.  I've incorporated the ability to undo and redo pretty much any changes made.  I'm considering releasing a small update to the beta release to showcase the newer features.  It may be a month or two before it's ready though.

It's probably too early to start a mod at this stage, but thanks for the interest Smiley.

Oh yeh its way to early for sure. Game would need to be out before i could even start something like that anyway.

Are its files similar to BZ2 files? i know they dont use a .ODF extension and never opened anything from the beta release...

I've drawn a lot of inspiration from BZ2, some would say too much.  The config files for MAD have the extension .idf.  Those files are typically in the media\item_data folder.

I really like how This editor looks. Does it save into a map that is usable right away? as in it saves in the right place, has a picture, a name, a description, ect... also you gotta make it so if someone is playing a map you don't have you can chose to download the map data before joining the game, that is the host allows it.

.... FILE SHARE :O maybe a server were people can upload maps you and download maps, kind of like the halo file sharing, I don't think it would take up that much bandwidth or anything. in the game menus it could almost be like a web browser to a webpage that can be seen in game and out of game, if you choose to download a map in game it downloads to were it is supposed to go and if you choose to download it in your normal browser, it just goes were ever you pick. That would be amazing Cheesy

it would be a mixture of... Battlezone 2 editor, Time Splitters 2 multiplayer map downloading search thing, Halo's file share system and Far Cry's map downloading when joining game.

All great games Cheesy

Also another little idea for the editor it's self, the ability to choose weather its indoors or not (like in a cave, or a ship, or a building) when you select this option the sky disappears and the camera flips upside down so it's looking at the ceiling as if it were the ground and you edit i like the ground, the real ground would fade or something so you can see through it while editing the ceiling, maybe an option to set how transparent it is, and while editing the ground the ceiling becomes transparent. This also means you will need a few sets of new textures and objects to match different indoor environments.
