Our newest team member, AcneVulgaris, has gotten our development branch working on the Linux platform!  It feels good to break free of those chains tying us exclusively to Windows.  We can expect to to do the same on the Macintosh platform in the future.

What does it take to switch a program from windows to linux?

I always wondered if Bz1 could run in linux.

If bz1 uses direct 3d, it may need to have a new graphics engine.  Basically converting the bz1 graphics code from Direct 3d to Open GL.  The sound engine would need to be rewritten in another API too, probably Open AL is your best bet.

There would be a lot of reprogramming involved to get it working on Linux.  Basically anything relying on Direct X would need to be rewritten.

there's wine but that not quite the same as running the game on linux, I don't know if anyone has tested BZ1 with wine but it might be worth asking zero angel as I know he uses it to run BZ2  ( or has done in the past ) .
